Rumours Theatre Sounds Extravaganza! (07.09.08)

Rumours 'Sounds Of The Theatre'Fun, exciting and full of talent... That's the best way to describe "Sound of the Theatre" which took place on Saturday night at Rumours Restaurant & Bar on Camposol.

The audience of 250+ filled the venue and from the beginning of the night you could feel the excitement in the air (and not just from the audience). To start, Chris Cross (the entertainments manager) welcomed & thanked everyone for coming to the show & introduced ALL the staff performing "Show Business" - straight away any doubts anyone may have had about what they were going to see were forgotten as the atmosphere rocketed.

Lisa sporting a cowgirl outfit then grabbed her whip as well as a mini horse and galloped about on stage to "Deadwood", followed by Corrinne singing "The Sound of music's" "Favourite Things". Aeden and Emma returned to the stage in their cowgirl and cowboy outfits to perform "Anything You Can Do (I Can Do Better)" with great energy and chemistry which got all the audience cheering for more!

Apart from the great tunes & costumes which were bought solely for the occasion, the show's strongest asset is its excellent staff who had been rehearsing their acts for many weeks and managed to put on a performance that was slick, fast, entertaining, funny and would rival any professional show in Benidorm Palace (or anywhere else for that matter).

Chris who came on to sing "Any Dream Will Do" wanted to make his costume distinctive and used different coloured strips of crepe paper for his Technicolor DreamCoat, then the lively Cathy reappeared to sing "Consider Yourself" from "Oliver". Bouncing from stage to the dance floor she had the audience clapping and singing along which carried over into the next act which was "Sisters (Are Doing It For Themselves)" performed by proprietors Sandra and Christina. After Margaret singing "Lullaby of Broadway" and all the staff performing "Hello Dolly", there was a short interval which comprised of bingo and music so the staff could have a short break and compose themselves ready for the second half of the show.

At 11:30 the audience's focus was recaptured with "Razzle Dazzle", a routine which saw all the designated entertainers for the evening cleaning the stage with many props including brooms and dusters. Shelly had a brief rest then came back to show she still had some "Oomph Pah Pah".

Chris caught the audience's attention with his version of "Sweet Transvestite" in which he dressed in a pink thong, basque, fishnet stockings and suspenders. The already electric atmosphere was given an extra dosage of voltage as he was reunited by the rest of the staff for one of the highlights of the evening "Time Warp" which had the majority of the audience (whilst still seated) join in with the dance routine. Chris tried to cover up the sassy outfit he was wearing with more manly attire in "I Am What I Am", singing and re-dressing in a suit.

The whole staff recaptured the limelight in style, with their beautifully entertaining interpretation of "Michael Flatly's River Dance" and wearing some eye catching fiery costumes. One more quick costume change later and the nights live entertainment drew to a close with the "Can Can".

After a standing ovation and cries for "MORE, MORE, MORE!" the staff came back to the stage to re-perform "Time Warp" for one final time, for which they received another standing ovation. Chris then thanked the staff for all their hard work and wished the audience a safe journey home.

Staff who performed: Aeden, Cathy, Chris, Christina, Corrinne, Emma, Iain, Julie, Lisa, Margaret, Sandra & Shelly.

I would like to say that both myself and the people I was sitting with thoroughly enjoyed the show and will certainly be attending the next one which will be a "Halloween Special" held on 31st October and the many others that will follow... Will you?
