Camposol Clean Up After Tourism Boost! (11.08.08)
Because of the overwhelming influx of tourism that has come onto Camposol over the past few months the bins have felt the strain and litter has spilled onto the walkways and roads making Camposol look untidy. Because of this one business owner (Lorraine Hay, Alley Palais) took it upon herself to do something about it and organised a cleanup, so she visited all the businesses on B sectors commercial centre to let them know what she was doing and the cost that would be involved. The majority of the business owners decided that enough was enough and the small contribution of €20 per business would be money well spent.
With the idea being so well received Lorraine counted up the contributions and calculated they would have enough funds to hire some help. To get things back up to standard they called upon a few young men who live on Camposol to help tidy up the area. James, Mikey & Jamie were approached by Lorraine to carry out the cleanup, they saw that their community needed them and accepted the challenge. Sunday 10th August 2008, starting at 7am so that they were unlikely to be disturbed by tourists, residents or the Spanish heat, the young lads donned their gloves, picked up their shovels and embarked on cleaning up Camposol.
Beginning at the roundabout off the motorway and working their way along the roads leading up to the commercial centre, they swept up the cigarette butts, crisp packets, soft drink cans & beer bottles. Soon enough the commercial centre was no longer covered with litter but showed signs of the cleaner's efforts, bin bags filled with rubbish lined the roads showing visitors and residents that the businesses on B sector are proud of their surroundings and will not tolerate the mess. Finishing off by sweeping the roads, James, Mikey & Jamie's hard graft can be clearly seen, and by now passers by are stopping to praise their work. Around 2pm they bundle the bin bags into a van ready to take to be disposed and call into a bar for a well deserved cold drink.
VisitCamposol.Com would like to convey our thanks to Lorraine, James, Mikey, Jamie & the majority of the businesses on B sector for their contributions & ask any new visitors to Camposol to please respect the area & put any litter in bins provided.
