Camposol Fiesta 2009...

Well, another Camposol Fiesta bites the dust… And what a fun pack weekend it was, there was so much happening that even the most miserable holiday maker was kept happy... The Commercial Centre 'B' car park was turned into a mass seating & dance area hosting many temporary bars setup by the likes of Alley Palais, Trevi's, Kennelly's & Cats Bar. The bars served food to keep peoples energy up for the events that lay ahead & drink to keep them cool whilst they boogied the night away with the live acts performing on stage.

Saturday started at 12 noon & the Camposol ex-pat population turned out in their thousands to enjoy the sun, fun and entertainment on offer this Fiesta weekend. Many businesses & charities including MAB's setup their stalls selling cakes, jewellery, cards etc. There were also activity stalls such as a hoopla tent, paintball target range, football shootout to mention a few.

At 2pm there was free paella offered on a first come first served basis, many people queued for up to 25 minutes to fill their plates. Whilst the lucky ones tucked into their Spanish cuisine the first of many bands took to the stage.

At around 4pm over 250 spectators eagerly awaited the Flamenco horse & dance show, "fantastic", "amazing" & "spectacular" are but a few words that have been associated with the show which saw 2 beautifully groomed horses take centre stage. Shortly after the Flamenco show there were performances from 4 of the 2009 'S' Factor finalists including 14 yr old Christy & Kayley who with her beautiful voice is in the actual UK X FACTOR show this year! (We'll all be rooting for her!).

At around 11pm the team from Valencia lit the fuse for the spectacular fireworks display… WOW! What can I say? The night sky was filled with mesmerizing flashes of patterned light; this was (in my eyes) THE jaw-dropping event of the weekend.

Sunday's crazy Olympic events started the day of at around 10am, residents young & old took part in the Camposol Fun Run, and they received great respect for participating. The tug of was another highlight of the morning; fantastic fun along with masses of energy, the event was electrifying the teams of bars, businesses & friends took grasp of the huge tug rope and heaved-ho until they could heave no more, all teams put in great effort but in the end the Kennellys team were crowned the winners!

Around 12 noon the smell of petrol was in the air as the classic car parade got underway. The cars drove slowly around Camposol, stopping off shortly at the Sensol Hotel, and then finishing off at the overspill car park close to the petrol station. After the engines stopped the bands started up on phase B commercial centre along with the 'scruffs dog show' which was judged by Carol Hawkins from 'Please Sir'.

At 4:30pm the gloves came off as the Karate demonstration kicked off with a bang… the white belts (beginners), orange & red belts (intermediate) performed various KATA's (set movements) for the growing crowd who gave massive applause which increased the confidence of the nervous kids. Once the KATA's & sparring had finished the finale began! Both black belt instructors (Lloyd & Daniel) started with a fast moving fighting scene which was then interrupted by a jumping kick to Daniels back by Jack (one of the younger students) sending him somersaulting through the air, the scene which could have rivaled a 'kung foo' movie ended with both black belts running off stage battered, bruised & defeated. Bowing their heads to thank the crowed the club received another massive round of applause.

Until 12am many bands performed to the fiesta attendee's, & as midnight approached they kept the music playing, many people wanted the party to continue so spilled into some of the bars who were still serving. With regret the fiesta drew to a close for another year - many thanks to the people who made this event the success that it most obviously was. See you next year?!
